Urban Quilt

McMonigal’s ongoing Urban Quilt series takes the horizontal and vertical lines found in densely built environments and flattens them to create a cohesive ‘quilt.’ This quilt is a patchwork of beams, windows, minarets, and rooflines that creates a new way of viewing an urban landscape. In this image composed of the Abu Dhabi cityscape, buildings become pieces of a larger pattern that unifies diverse architectural styles and periods, removed from their historical context.
