Central Bus Station, Georgi Kolarov, 1989
When the Central Bus Station was first constructed in 1989 by Bulgarian architect Georgi Kolarov, it had two U-shaped structures facing opposite directions. The iconic roof was later added to the main terminal, creating four sweeping structures and half-rounded arches that introduce shade and create a passive, flowing design. In 2012, the station was recognized as a landmark building by the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi.
