Al-Qasimiyah School, Khatib & Alami, c1981
The Al-Qasimiyah School in Al Manakh, one of 20 schools in Sharjah constructed based on Khatib & Alami architectural designs, features modernist elements such as vaulted bays, modular classrooms, open spaces, and earth tones. The Sharjah Architecture Triennial acquired the property from the Ministry of Education in 2018. An example of adaptive reuse, the Al-Qasimiyah School remains rooted in its architectural and cultural history while reflecting the municipality’s evolving climate-conscious design aspirations. The renovated building now functions as a cultural institution, serving as the Triennial offices, exhibition space, and lecture hall, among other purposes.
